Under the 'Plant Trees, Save Trees Public Campaign-2024', the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has set a new record by planting the highest number of trees in a single day. On July 20, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted trees in Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur. With the highest contribution from the Department of Rural Development, the Uttar Pradesh government has planted 36,51,45,477 trees, a crucial effort to protect the environment amidst climate change. The Rural Development Department planted the most trees, 13.54 crore. Among the districts, Sonbhadra led the way with 1.53 crore trees planted. The Yogi government had set a target of planting 36.46 crore trees across the state in one day, and the Forest Department had prepared for the planting and conserving of 36.50 crore trees. However, the final count reached 36,51,45,477. The government aims to increase the state's green cover from 9% to 15% by 2026-27. Overall, the Yogi government has planted more than 204.51 crore trees in the state during its tenure. Under this massive plantation campaign, they planted trees in all 18 state divisions. The Rural Development Department planted the most trees, 13.54 crore. The Forest and Wildlife Department played a unique role in increasing the greenery of Uttar Pradesh by planting 12.64 crore trees. The Agriculture Department was third, planting 2.89 crore trees. The Horticulture Department planted 1.61 crore trees, and the Panchayati Raj Department planted 1.18 crore trees. Among the districts, Sonbhadra led the way with 1.53 crore trees planted. In one day, they planted 97 lakh trees in Jhansi, 95 lakh in Lakhimpur Kheri, 94 lakh in Jalaun, and more than 93 lakh in Mirzapur. The most prioritized plants in the plantation campaign included 4.33 crore Sheesham trees, 4.33 crore Teak trees, 2.19 crore Jamun trees, 1.67 crore Arjun trees, and 95.32 lakh Amla trees. Under the 'Plant Trees, Save Trees Public Campaign 2024', large-scale plantation was done on forest land, defence land, railway land, village panchayat and community land, expressways, roads, canals, railway tracks, development authority, industrial complexes, medical institutions, educational institutions, other government land, private land of farmers, and private premises of citizens. The Forest Department provided real-time updates on an Android-based Plantation Monitoring System software to ensure complete transparency in this campaign. The Chief Minister's clear directive was that the plantation campaign should not be limited to mere paperwork like in previous governments but ensure complete transparency and effective monitoring of the plants. That is why they also made a comprehensive arrangement for the geo-tagging of plants this year. The Yogi government advanced the mission to make four expressways greener by planting more than 2 lakh trees. They planted over 1 lakh trees in the UP Defense Industrial Corridor. According to UPDA officials, the department has provided more than Rs. 36 crore to the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department for planting and maintaining trees for ten years on 500 hectares of land between the carriageway and service road of the Ganga Expressway. Furthermore, over 2 lakh trees were planted on four other expressways operated by UPDA. These include 15 thousand trees on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, 1 lakh, 6 thousand on the Purvanchal Expressway, 25 thousand on the Bundelkhand Expressway, and 91 thousand 600 trees on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. They also planted more than 1 lakh trees in the UP Defense Industrial Corridor.
