At a time when most regions fail to align development with education, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath is changing this very narrative about Gorakhpur. This city, which was known more for its rich cultural and religious heritage, is rapidly emerging as a knowledge and opportunities hub and has become a role model for effective governance. Now, Gorakhpur joins the small list of cities in India having four universities. That is not all. Very recently, a Sainik School has been added to the list of educational achievements of the city—a feat that places Gorakhpur as an education hub not only for eastern Uttar Pradesh but also for its immediate neighbours of Bihar and Nepal. With plans in place to open the State Institute of Hotel Management next year, Gorakhpur is fast emerging as a bright ray of hope for career aspirants seeking specialised education in technology, medicine, management, and hospitality. It is no accident. This transformation is the handiwork of sustained, focused efforts by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whose vision for Gorakhpur underpinned building a sustainable future for the region's youth, not just in economic growth. Creating Leaders, Not Just Soldiers Setting up a Sainik school in Gorakhpur would be a significant feather in the cap of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Besides being just another school, it is a pivotal development that shifts the balance of opportunities in military services for the region. This is not only eastern Uttar Pradesh's first Sainik School but also the second in the state run by the Uttar Pradesh Sainik School Society. For Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this is a "dream project" that opens a door for the youth of Purvanchal to enter into the armed forces—not only that, but also to reach the leadership positions. Sainik School is designed in such a way that it would churn out officers, not just soldiers, to ensure the best available military training is given to the youths of the region. The inauguration of the school scheduled for September 7 by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will undoubtedly mark a new chapter in the city's educational and aspirational landscape. Two New Universities in Seven Years When Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came into power, there was only one significant university apart from the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University—namely, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology. In the last seven years, when he took over as chief minister, two more universities have been added to the academic portfolio of the city—a remarkable feat reflecting his deep commitment to higher education. The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University is now providing education in all AYUSH medical disciplines, while the Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, a private institution, has also opened its doors. The increasing demand for specialised education finds its avenues in these new universities, placing Gorakhpur on the academic map in a way that would have been unimaginable a decade ago. It is not a coincidence that these institutes have the name Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath attached to them, reflecting how intricately the tradition of the Gorakhnath Temple weaves into the line of development taken by the city. Expansion of Horizons with Hotel Management When the education sector started blooming in Gorakhpur, there was one sector that was not touched. That was hospitality. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now moved to fill these gaps as well. Training and education in one of the most vibrant sectors of the economy will soon be imparted in the city with the under-construction State Institute of Hotel Management in GIDA. It is expected to be ready by September 2025 and will impart valuable, job-oriented education to the youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh in the hospitality industry. This promises to raise the bar in a region where decent job opportunities have been few and far between. The proposed institute will allow its students to gain skills in one of the fastest-growing industries of the world and, along with education, a way to good careers. Chief Minister's Vision in Action Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's effort to transform Gorakhpur into a "knowledge city" is even reshaping its very identity. There has been clarity in his leadership that development and education must go hand in hand. He is therefore focussing on high-quality institutions and bringing in a culture of learning so that the youth of Gorakhpur have all the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world. This is not only about building schools and universities but an opportunity. It is an opportunity for youth from Gorakhpur, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and beyond to dream big, aim higher, and achieve more. The infrastructural projects that were initiated during the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are not mere changes that are altering the landscape of Gorakhpur but mark the beginning of a brighter and prosperous future. The city moves closer to becoming the model of excellence with each new institution that is coming up. The vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is that Gorakhpur will be a destination—one where youth do not have to move out in search of an opportunity. Instead, it is becoming a destination—a city where knowledge, culture, and development converge to create something truly remarkable.
